Compassionate Care for People in Fremont
On June 1, 2026, Natalie's Place will open in Fremont, California, to connect marginalized populations with the clinical and supportive services they need to improve their health, remain stably housed in their community, and age in place. Fremont's City Council adopted a Shelter Crisis Declaration in March 2026 that supports this new pillar in the City's system of care. With support and leadership from Alameda County, the City is working with Cardea Health and its program partner Abode to make Natalie's Place a safe alternative for people with nowhere else to turn.
Among people experiencing homelessness, a growing number are living with complex medical needs. They face poor quality of life, increased morbidity and mortality, and medical and social destabilization. They have few housing options; they need a higher level of care and interim housing, but they do not wish to live in an institutional setting and have limited access to hospice or palliative care.
Natalie's Place will serve this vulnerable population and help make Fremont and nearby areas in Alameda County safer places to live. In addition, 50 beds will be set aside for patients needing medical respite. Natalie's Place will provide a range of clinical services to both address residents' medical needs and allow them to live independently in their communities, addressing a critical need within the system of care.
